CubeSat

We are building a CubeSat because we want to:

1. Be the first QLD University to
convincingly get to Space
2. Show our capabilties and initiative
to the aerospace industry
3. Be crusaders to inspire Space exploration.

We don’t have the opportunity to create Satellites during our undergraduate degrees so, as an extra cirricular activity, we have decided to do it ourselves.

Every project needs a name. SATypus is our CubeSat Project’s name. the portmanteau of ‘Satellite’ and ‘Platypus’.

SATypus Prototype v2.0 will be the payload atop a rocket being launched to 10,000 ft at AURC 2024 atop Our NETTAypus rocket.

Bringing the “Space” to the Aerospace Society, The CubeSat is The Society’s biggest flagship project ever and so it is necessary to breakdown the project into Subsystems (SYS:[AAA]) that are responsible for certain parts of the CubeSat’s development. We have 7 subsystems, and they are showcased below:

SYS:ADC

Attitude Determination and Control

SYS:CDH

Command and Data Handling

SYS:COM

Communication

SYS:PAY

Payload

SYS:PWR

Power

SYS:STR

Structure and mechanisms

SYS:THM

Thermal Management
