SATypus

A portmanteau of “Satellite” and “Platypus”, The SATypus Project is our fully Student Researched And Designed (SRAD) CubeSat that will be launched into Space. We are currently developing a 2U CubeSat that can fit a small scientific or part validation testing payload.

A subsidiary Project of SATypus is the experimental scientific payload that is also SRAD. Here, we are trying to develop a new type of reaction wheel that lasts longer than conventional designs because of how crucial reaction wheels are to the lifetime of spacecraft. If we can extend the mission lifetime of Spacecraft we can build bigger and better Space Infrastructure – essential to going back to the Moon and on to Mars.

Once we have Our CubeSat design, we could offer a service to ferry parts up into Space for validation and testing. This can relieve financial and work loads off the big players in the Industry, allowing them to focus on the core mission and opening up opportunities for the smaller players, like us to meaningfully contribute to the advancement of Science and Technology.
